MakerStory with Zeiss and #HandsOnMetrology
Additive Drives develops the most innovative electric motors in the world. The use of 3D printing enables maximum design freedom and innovative solutions. They develop electric motors with power densities of over 100kW/liter and unmatched efficiencies. The team is constantly faced with new challenges that need to be solved in order to meet the high demands of their customers.
What drives the team at Additive Drives GmbH? Commercial Managing Director Philipp Arnold, Head of Marketing Lukas Günther and Head of Quality Assurance René Tropschuh give an insight into their daily work and the topics that drive them!
Electric motors move the world – in the truest sense of the word! Around a third of the electrical energy consumed worldwide today is used in electric motors. The development of new, more efficient motors can make a decisive contribution to environmental and climate protection.
Many of today’s electric motors, especially in stationary applications or in pumps, are more like heaters than drives due to their low efficiency. The development of more efficient motors can set new standards here.
In addition, many industries are only at the beginning of electrification, particularly in the electric aerospace industry, where the motors from Additive Drives GmbH are pushing the boundaries of what is feasible with innovative oil cooling or the new phase transition cooling in electric motors. In the automotive sector, prototyping using 3D printing enables faster and more cost-effective testing of new engines and therefore a faster market launch.

More InformationWhatever the challenge, let’s face it together: The #HandsOnMetrology team visited René Tropschuh’s laboratory in the fall of 2024 to take a closer look at production and optical metrology. Optical metrology is used for precise incoming and outgoing goods inspections as well as for checking a wide range of components and tools. René Tropschuh can look back on many years of experience in the field of 3D printing and measurement technology, making him the ideal contact for this task. His experience and passion for precision set him apart as Head of Quality Assurance.
Philipp Arnold is co-founder and CFO of Additive Drives, his motivation is to reduce global energy consumption through a new generation of electric drives. Additive Drives was born out of a desire to take electric motors to the next level and simplify the development of new, more efficient and more powerful electric motors. To this end, the two motor developers Philipp Arnold and Dr. Jakob Jung founded the company Additive Drives together with production technology expert Axel Helm.
Marketing Manager Lukas Günther is not only responsible for Additive Drives’ public relations work, but is also the point of contact for all topics relating to the electrification of commercial vehicles and heavy machinery. The power densities that specialized electric motors can achieve offer system developers new possibilities, such as electric power transmission and power splitting or electric traction and auxiliary drives in agricultural and forestry machinery.
